GAHANNA, Ohio (WCMH) – A bakery known for its alcohol-infused desserts is opening its first brick-and-mortar in Gahanna, where it will also offer tea service and a mocktail bar.
Speakeasy Bakery will soon open at 121 Mill St. in Gahanna. The dessert shop was first opened by Candi Francisco in 2017. It currently operates out of the 1400 Food Lab – a commercial kitchen for small food businesses – located at 1400 Dublin Road in the Marble Cliff neighborhood.
The business started out selling liquor-infused traditional cakes, and has since expanded its menu to offer items such as liquor-infused frosting and Gooey Butter Cake, a flat and dense cake that originated in St. Louis, Missouri, Francisco said.
“We will, of course, still have our liquor-infused desserts, but we will expand on that a bit by also featuring other local dessert makers that we like to do a lot of collaborations with,” Francisco said.
On Sundays, Speakeasy Bakery’s Gahanna location will offer tea service, featuring its own menu with scones and mini sandwiches, according to Francisco. The dessert shop will also feature a mocktail bar.
“We like to say that alcohol is in our desserts and not in our drinks,” Francisco said.
The space will be available to rent for events. The dessert shop will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. The bakery will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but the space will still be available for rent.
Speakeasy Bakery will continue operating out of the 1400 Food Lab after its Gahanna opening. A set-and-stone opening date is not set yet, but Francisco said the Gahanna shop will be open by the end of the year.
