REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (WCMH) – Yelp recently released its rankings for the “Top 100 Pizza Spots in the Midwest,” with a central Ohio pizzeria ranking in the top five.
To compile the list, Yelp analysts examined pizzerias in 12 different states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The businesses were ranked on “a number of factors” including ratings and reviews.
“We also consulted with our Community Managers to zero in on which spots Yelpers were loving,” Yelp stated.
Tyler’s Pizzeria and Bakery, located at 7516 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg, secured a spot on the list at No. 4.
"We were so excited, that was fantastic," owner Bryan Tyler said. "To make number four on a list like that. … We kind of take pride in it, but we've been called that hole-in-the-wall shop, we're just a tiny little shop, so to get credit like that, that's fantastic."
The central Ohio eatery began selling baked goods in 2010 and added pizzas at the suggestion of customers in 2011, Tyler said. He said the restaurant's pizzas have their own style that he describes as a mix of Midwest and Neapolitan styles. Reviewers favorite pizzas include the Autumn Swoon and Paupers’ Pie, according to Yelp.
“Wood-fired and handcrafted, the sourdough-crust pizza from this takeout-only joint is a big success,” Yelp wrote. “Columbus-area customers can’t get enough of Tyler’s pizza crust, which is ‘charred, crisp, and chewy, [with an] undercarriage to die for.’”
The rest of the top five includes Loui’s Pizza in Michigan (1), Futuro in Indiana (2), Pequod’s Pizza in Illinois (3) and Milly’s Pizza in the Pan in Illinois (5).
Other Ohio pizzerias that made the top 20 include In Forno Pizza in Avon (6), Il Rione in Cleveland (13) and Il Gusto Pizza & Pasta in Cincinnati (17). One Columbus restaurant, Terita’s Pizza Carry Out, made the list coming in at No. 51.
