COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man arrested after a fatal shooting and a police chase received a massive bond in court Tuesday morning.
According to court records, 18-year-old Mehki Miller faces murder charges after a man was fatally shot Sunday in the 700 block of South Ogden Avenue. Police responded to the scene at 10:19 p.m. and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in a garage.
Witnesses told police that Miller and 28-year-old John Wilkes got into a verbal dispute. At one point, Miller allegedly pulled a gun and shot Wilkes at close range. Miller then reportedly shot Wilkes several more times as he was attempting to crawl away.
Police said Miller dragged Wilkes to the garage, located behind the home, and left in a car as officers arrived. A police helicopter found it heading toward Sullivant Avenue, and a suspect got out and ran away from the car.
When officers arrived at the vehicle, they found a woman also suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital in stable condition.
Miller was spotted on Columbian Avenue and taken into custody just after 11:30 p.m. A firearm was recovered when the suspect was caught. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and no one else was injured during the incident.
In court Tuesday, a Franklin County Municipal Court judge issued Miller a $5 million bond and ordered him to next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 8.
