The New York Mets aimed to enter the All-Star break with a win but faltered, losing 8-5 to the Colorado Rockies, who hit six home runs at Citi Field on Sunday.
Jose Quintana struggled on the mound, giving up four home runs and five runs total in 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight on six hits. Ezequiel Tovar, Michael Toglia (three times), and Brenton Doyle all homered against Quintana.
Phil Maton came in and finished the inning after Quintana’s exit, but Adrian Houser struggled, allowing three runs on three hits, including two home runs. Danny Young pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up one hit to Charlie Blackmon.
The Mets had opportunities against German Marquez, with a Pete Alonso two-run home run and a bases-loaded walk by Francisco Lindor, but couldn’t capitalize further. Jeff McNeil doubled in a run, making it 8-4. Lindor and Jose Iglesias, who went 4-for-4, were the only Mets with multiple hits. The team left 12 runners on base.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Mets loaded the bases but only scored one run on a Brandon Nimmo RBI groundout against Victor Vodnik. Francisco Alvarez, representing the tying run, hit a deep fly ball to center, but it was caught at the fence, ending the rally.
Vodnik secured the five-out save for Colorado, overcoming an error and a Jose Iglesias single to finish the game.
New York enters the All-Star break three games over .500 at 49-46. They won seven of their last nine.

Fresh off his two-home run game, Jose Iglesias delivered another stellar performance at the plate, going 4-for-4. This marks the second four-hit game of his career.
He enters the break with a .380 average and .999 OPS.
Jose Quintana gave up four home runs for the first time in his career. Colorado’s homers came from Tovar, Doyle, and Toglia, who hit three. Quintana ends the day with a 4.13 ERA.
The All-Star break is upon us but the Mets return to action for the second half of the season on Friday against the Miami Marlins in Miami.
