A major US wholesale retailer has recalled cold and flu medication over possible contamination.
Costco customers were advised in a letter on Thursday that the affected product Kirkland Signature brand Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion was sold from October 30 to November 30 of last year.
The manufacturer LNK International, Inc, stated in the letter that it initiated the recall ‘for the accidental release and shipment of a specific lot code that was rejected due to potential foreign material contamination’.
No further details were provided, nor information on whether anyone had been sickened.
Items impacted have the lot code P140082.
‘Do not use any remaining product marked with the above lot code; return the item to your local Costco for a full refund,’ wrote the manufacturer.
Customers were issues or concerns are enocuraged to contact LNK International, Inc.
LNK International ‘produces solid and liquid dose, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals for private label programs’ and is a private company based in Hauppauge, New York, its LinkedIn page states.
The medicine recall comes just weeks after Handsome Brook Farms voluntarily recalled about 10,800 retail units of its Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs that were sold under the Kirkland Signature brand. The eggs, which were distributed to 25 Costco stores starting on November 22, were possibly contaminated with Salmonella, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Then in the days before Christmas, the FDA upgraded the eggs alert level to Class I, which is the most serious risk level. It means that the ‘situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death’.
In October, Costco recalled Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon over possible listeria contamination. And in November, Costco recalled 79,200 pounds of Kirkland Signature butter simply because the labels did not indicate that it contained milk.
Costco is a membership-only warehouse club chain that sells a variety of products from household items to electronics to clothing to food at discounted prices.
