A manhunt for a mass shooter is underway in Montenegro after at least 10 people were killed following a bar brawl.
Police are hunting for Aco Martinovic, 45, who is accused of shooting the owner of a bar in the city of Cetinje, the bar owner’s children, and his own family members.
Special troops have been deployed to search for the attacker, with interior minister Danilo Saranovic saying the authorities are ‘focused on arresting him’.
Local media reports suggest Martinovic went home to get his gun after a fight at the bar before returning and opening fire.
It’s thought he then went to another location where he killed the bar owner’s children and a woman.
The original death toll of four has since risen to 10, with four more wounded.
The victims have not yet been named.
Police have ruled out a clash between criminal gangs as the cause of the shooting, but have appealed for locals to remain calm and stay indoors.
Montenegro, which has a population of 620,000 people, is known for gun culture and many people traditionally have weapons.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajic has announced three days of mourning in the wake of the shooting, having visited some of the wounded in hospital.
The country’s president, Jakov Milatovic, said he was ‘shocked and stunned’ by the tragedy, adding: ‘Instead of holiday joy…we have been gripped by sadness over the loss of innocent lives.’
