More than 10,000 pounds of pork products including sausage have been recalled over simple oversights in the manufacturing process.
About 7,485 pounds of raw Italian pork sausage items were recalled by Baltimore-based Impero Foods & Meats, Inc, because they ‘were produced without the benefit of federal inspection’, the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on Friday.
The impacted products include 10-pound white cardboard box cases of Old World Italian Sausage with ‘rope’ or ‘link’ handwritten. They also have EST. 10827 in the USDA inspection mark and were produced from October 3 to December 19.
They were shipped to restaurants and retailers in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania and may have been sold at deli counters without identifying labels.
‘FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or restaurants’ refrigerators or freezers,’ stated the agency’s announcement.
‘Retailers and restaurants are urged not to sell or serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.’
There have been no reports of consumers being sickened from the products. Anyone with concerns is urged to contact their healthcare provider.
The issue arose after a retailer contacted FISIS on products that could have been produced at a facility with a suspended inspection grant.
Also on Friday, Oklahoma-based Ralph’s Packing Company recalled about 3,132 pounds of ready-to-eat pork and beef bologna items due to another oversight in the production process – ‘misbranding and an undeclared allergen’, according to the FSIS.
The affected products came in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed packages named Ralph’s CIRCLE R BRAND GARLIC BOLOGNA with and without jalapenos with various lot codes. They had EST. 51557 on the USDA inspection mark and were produced since September 2022.
There have been no reports of illness due to the items that are possibly frozen and were shipped to restaurants and retailers in Oklahoma.
The maker contacted FSIS to report that the product did not include milk on the label.
Both recalls come more than two months after nearly 10million pounds of meat in frozen meals and salads were recalled over possible listeria contamination.
