A suspected gunman at a Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta has been arrested after reportedly firing shots and barricading himself inside.
Police and SWAT team members encircled the hotel in Midtown on Tuesday afternoon after witnesses said they heard several gunshots.
The suspect was armed, police said.
A man was spotted brandishing a gun at someone in the hotel on an upper floor, sources told WSBTV. Cops spotted the suspect on a balcony but he then went out of sight.
Four Seasons guests and residents were advised to shelter in place and visitors were told to stay away from the area.
‘Citizens within sight of the Four Seasons Hotel are advised to avoid any windows and rooms facing the area,’ wrote the Atlanta Police Department on X (formerly Twitter), at 3.52pm.
The suspect threw a handgun off the balcony but remained inside, police told the TV station.
Law enforcement officials created a perimeter around the hotel out of an abundance of caution.
Several hotel guests peered over their balconies at cop cars on the ground, FOX 5 reported.
The suspect’s identity and if anyone was injured was not immediately known.
At 4.35pm, the police department announced on X that ‘the suspect has been apprehended and is in custody’.
‘The shelter in place has been lifted,’ wrote the police department.
‘We ask that citizens still avoid the area. Streets will continue to be closed in the area for a period, as the investigation continues.’
Multiple roads were closed around the hotel including 14th St NE at W Peachtree St NE and Crescent Ave NE, 13th St NE at W Peachtree St NE and Crescent Ave NE, and the Peachtree Walk.
