The King’s eating habits have caused fascination for some time, with people once convinced he lined up seven boiled eggs each morning but only ate the one with the optimum consistency.
It turns out, that was a myth (or at least, so the royal family said), but now there are claims of another unusual routine.
The Mail on Sunday reports he has made a surprising change – by starting to eat lunch for the first time.
And not just any lunch: if sources are to be believed, his favoured snack leaves something to be desired if you’re more a fan of the supermarket meal deal or slap-up roast dinner.
A source told the paper: ‘With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime – a snack, really.
‘He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.’
He made the change after a lifetime of skipping lunch due to seeing it as an unecessary luxury, the paper reported.
After he was diagnosed with cancer in March, he acknowledged that he needs to keep his strength up, and took the advice of his wife, doctors and aides to add a little something to his daily routine.
Half an avocado would probably taste okay with some seeded bread, olive oil, halloumi, chilli flakes and maybe one of those boiled eggs.
But the paper did not mention anything about sides alongside the avocado, or whether he saved the second half for the next day.
In 2021, the King told how he goes without certain food groups on certain days: ‘I haven’t eaten meat and fish on two days a week and I don’t eat dairy products on one day a week.’
Doing this helped with his carbon footprint, he said ahead of the UN Climate Change summit in Glasgow.
With avocados linked to water shortages as it is such a thirsty crop, perhaps this is why he only has half at a time.
But in any case, we couldn’t do without lunch, so bon appetit.
