Another fire has broken out in a building in east London, hours after a tower block in Dagenham was engulfed by flames on Bank Holiday Monday.
Footage circulating on X shows black smoke billowing out of the side of one of the high-rises at New Providence Wharf, near the River Thames.
Flames appear to be raging inside one of the apartments in Charrington Tower, a 45-storey building which was completed in 2016.
A witness who shared the video on social media said: ‘Bannisters and glass falling off the cladding. Entire apartment engulfed in flames.’
London Fire Brigade (LFB) has confirmed that 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines have been deployed to the scene where half of a flat and balcony on the 25th floor is alight.
‘Two of the Brigade’s aerial ladders, including a 64 metre turntable ladder, were deployed to support firefighters as they carried out their response,’ LFB said in a statement.
‘The fire produced a large amount of smoke. Those in the local area were advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid Biscayne Avenue if possible.’
A local resident said he heard an alarm going off at around1.25pm this afternoon.
An eyewitness said: ‘Around 1.25pm an alarm rang out when I noticed smoke billowing from the apartment.
‘Debris and pieces had fallen from the balcony, glass shattered and caused the fire to expand and engulfed the space, with flames reaching out as the wind carried the smoke.
‘The fire brigade arrived 20 minutes later and were tackling it from the adjacent apartment around 1.52pm.’

Crews from Millwall, Plaistow, Shadwell and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
LFB confirmed that the fire is now ‘under control’, but warned that traffic in the area is likely to be impacted as crews leave the scene.
What caused the incident at New Providence Wharf is not yet known, but it comes as firefighters responded to a major incident in Dagenham.
More than 100 people were evacuated and two hospitalised. At least 20 people had to be rescued by crews.
