A man found dead on the Spanish coast was attempting to perform a black magic ritual, his family have told local police.
The 65-year-old was found surrounded by six decapitated hens in a cove near the town of Palamos on the Costa Brava early on Sunday morning.
He had been with his wife and two daughters, who reportedly said they had an argument with him as they opposed the ritual.
According to local media, he left them to go and perform the ritual behind some rocks.
They said they found him unconscious and having seizures, immediately calling emergency services.
Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to revive him.
The case remains under investigation by police, who say there were no signs of foul play.
Detectives are not speculating on the cause of death while an autopsy is carried out.
Some reports suggested the man may have ingested drugs during the ceremony.
The cove is located near a path that runs from a ruined castle, Castell de Sant Esteve de Mar, to the Gori white pine forest, a popular hiking spot.
