McCain Foods GB has issued an immediate recall notice for a number of products sold across the UK.
The company has become aware of distributors selling products imported as part of a trial that saw a limited number of packs from nine McCain Foods India product lines available in 20 local convenience stores from May 19, 2024.
McCain GB identified an error in the compliance check process, which means that while the items meet Indian market regulations, they have not been assessed for distribution on the UK market.
Failure in assessing the products means that these items carry the risk of the presence of UK-specific allergens (mustard and celery), as well as the potential presence of ethylene oxide – a substance typically used to preserve product seasonings.
From a total of 43,663 packs, 18,671 had already been purchased by customers prior to the recall order.
McCain have now ensured that all products are removed from sale, with a total 24,992 packs withdrawn from stores.
This is the full list of recalled items:
No other McCain products are said to be affected.
