Saratoga recognized the 40th anniversary of its sister city relationship with the city of Muko, Japan at the Oct. 2 city council meeting.
The partnership came about after landscape architect Kiyoshi Yasui of Muko visited Saratoga in 1969 to develop a master plan for Hakone Gardens. The two cities formalized their partnership in 1984 after seeing similarities with each other, and delegations from both cities have over the past 40 years visited each other on several occasions.
