SANTA CLARA COUNTY – One San Jose man was killed and another suffered major injuries when their big rigs collided head-on Monday morning near the Santa Clara-San Benito county line, according to authorities.
The fatal crash happened just before 10 a.m. on Highway 25 south of Bolsa Road, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
A 70-year-old man was traveling northbound in a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia when he crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided with a 68-year-old man traveling southbound in a 2022 Mack Anthem, according to the CHP. Both big rigs came to a rest on the west shoulder with their trailers blocking the southbound lane.
The 68-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The 70-year-old man was ejected from the Freightliner and suffered major injuries. He was taken to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the collision, the CHP said.
