Good Morning. It's Friday 7th June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Spurs activation clause could cost Leeds dearAny hopes that Leeds would sign Joe Rodon on the cheap this Summer have been dashed, after it was revealed that Spurs have activated a clause in the Welshman's contract, extending it for another twelve months (until the Summer of 2026).
The North London outfit still plan to offload him, but can now demand in the region of £20m, double what the Whites expected to pay for the 26yo. He was one of only two Leeds players to break the 5000 minute barrier last season (Ampadu being the other). Rodon had to have pain killing injections towards the end of the campaign to keep him going, such was his importance to the side.
Is Rodon worth £20m? Can Leeds afford it. Would he spend another season in the Championship?
Clarke Hammer blowLeeds look set to miss out on a Jack Clarke reunion after it was revealed that West Ham are preparing a big money move for the 23 year old. The former Whites academy player netted 15 times, and provided 4 assists for Sunderland last season, even though he missed six weeks of the season with an ankle ligament problem. It was hoped that Leeds would bring him back to Elland Road this Summer, sell Crysencio Summerville and still have money left over to make a sizeable dent into the £190m debt Leeds have.
It is quite feasible that Leeds may have to part with Summerville, Rutter, Harrison, Gnonto and possibly even Gray, in order to raise enough Capital to keep the club on the right side of financial fair play and rebuild a side capable of automatic promotion. Although West Ham are firm favourites for Clarke's signature, Southampton and Bournemouth are also monitoring the situation carefully.
