Apple's M-series Macs have been a boon for the company and its customers. These computers are powerful, fast, and sleek, even if you don't go for the Pro models. Truly, the MacBook Air line has been the best value for the average consumer, which is why this latest early Prime Day deal is so good.
Right now, you can pick up an M2 MacBook Air for just $749. For context, Apple's M2 MacBook Air launched two years ago with a starting price of $1,199. It's the same computer, but $450 less.
For that price, you get the very capable M2 chip with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. Apple calls this the 13-inch MacBook Air, but it really has a 13.6-inch display, which sports a 1080p built-in webcam. It also comes with two USB-C (USB 4) ports, as well as a MagSafe port for magnetic charging. That deal applies for any of the four color options available, too, including Midnight, Silver, Space Gray, and Starlight.
Now, don't buy your M2 MacBook Air through Apple, at least not right now: The MacBook maker will happily sell you an Air at its current MSRP of $999, but stores like Amazon and Best Buy are the ones running the sale. If you feel you need more storage, the 512GB configuration is also on sale at Amazon for $949.
Most people, to be honest. Apple's M2 chip is more than capable for most tasks in 2024, and likely most tasks for years to come. Unless you are someone who does professional video, audio, or graphics work, the Air will easily churn through web browsing, email, conferencing, and light photo and video editing.
That said, there are limits to this particular configuration. The machine only comes with 8GB of RAM, which is surprisingly capable for 2024 (I thought it'd be a problem back in 2022) but you may notice some slowdown when taxing your machine with too many open windows and active tasks. If you do a lot of multitasking on macOS, you may want to look into machines with 16GB of RAM, which is not currently a part of this sale.
However, for anyone looking for an entry-level Mac that punches well above its class, the M2 MacBook Air is a steal at $750.
I've previously recommended Apple's M1 MacBook Air at this exact price point, as recently as April. Now, the M2 has taken over this space: Not only do you get an upgraded processor, you also get a larger display with a more modern form factor, and MagSafe.
It's a killer deal, but if $750 is still a bit steep, you can find Apple's M1 Air for even less these days. Best Buy has them on clearance for $631.99. You can save nearly $120 from the M2, and still get an excellent MacBook.
