AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Central Market's giant charcuterie board was officially declared "the largest charcuterie board in the world to be created and consumed,” the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD said in a news release Thursday.
Central Market made the giant charcuterie as a way to celebrate turning 30 in a unique way.
The H-E-B off-shoot is entering its 30s in the most millennial way possible -- a giant charcuterie board.
Central Market attempted to break the Guinness World Record in the process, hoping to take home the title of Largest Charcuterie in the World. The grocer said over 1,000 pounds of meat and cheeses will be part of the smear.
"The charcuterie board included 540 pounds of cured meats, such as Niman Ranch applewood-smoked ham, Levoni schiacciata piccante, and Salami Napoli; 240 pounds of Manchego and triple-cream brie cheeses; 130 pounds of fruits, including Divina Castelvetrano olives; and 90 pounds of Divina fig spread and Janet’s Finest mixed berry jalapeño compote," the release said.
The record was previously held by West Palm Beach, Florida's Boarderie. The cheese and charcuterie board company earned the title in 2023 with a board that weighed in at 769 pounds and measured 20 feet by 14 feet, according to Boarderie's website.
Central Market will showcase the finished charcuterie at its North Lamar location in Austin on Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m., where guests can eat its contents, as the board must be consumed in order to break the record.
This celebration event will feature the massive spread, live music, a special presentation, and a toast to 30 years, the grocery chain said in a release.
Central Market will continue the birthday party on Thursday, with a concert featuring Ray Benson and Friends at the store's Westgate location from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The Thursday event will feature a special presentation to honor the impact of music, followed by the unveiling of a mural by a local artist, the live concert, and an Anniversary Celebration Stroll with food and drinks.
