AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hook 'em! Football is back at the University of Texas at Austin as the Longhorns take on the Colorado State Rams in their 2024 season opener.
As fans flock to the Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff, there will be plenty of traffic in and around UT's campus. Here's a breakdown of some of the planned pre-game and post-game road closures, as well as available parking near the stadium.
Scheduled traffic effects begin at 6 a.m. on UT home game days. This includes one-way traffic surrounding the stadium. However, UT officials noted only vehicles "with the appropriate Longhorn Foundation permits and ADA placards or license plates" are allowed to travel in the area, per UT documents.
Overnight parking is restricted in impacted lots and streets. The university will enact towing on violating vehicles beginning at 12:01 a.m. on game days. More information on UT's towing policy is available online.
UT outlined a list of parking garages, lots and streets with paid parking available on game days.
The Health Center Garage, located at Trinity and 15th Streets, and the Speedway Garage at Speedway and 27th Street are two garage options. Those will be available for game day parking, with a $50 fee and parking available beginning five hours before the game begins.
UT surface lots available for public parking include Lot 15, Lot 18 and Lot 82, with a $50 fee beginning at 7 a.m.
ADA-compliant parking is offered in public parking garages open on game days, per UT. Special accommodation parking isn't designated as ADA-compliant; however, UT officials said it does provide parking closer to the venue that could assist some attendees.
Any Longhorn Foundation members needing ADA-compliant parking can use their Longhorn Foundation parking permit and state-issued places or placards to park in an ADA-compliant space, per UT. However, officials said those spots need to be where the permit is valid and accepted.
Special accommodations parking is available for $50 on a first-come, first-serve basis. Those spots open up at 7 a.m. on game days and are available at:
Those with ADA credentials can use the Robert Dedman Drive at Dean Keeton checkpoint for entry access. More details on special accommodations and ADA parking are available online.
CapMetro said its services near UT's campus will be impacted on UT football's home game days. There will be detours in place along San Jacinto Boulevard on game days, in addition to disrupted services the evening before.
