Kansas signs agreement to simplify license exchange process for South Koreans
KANSAS (KSNT) — Today at the capitol, state officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which will make it easier for South Koreans to live and work in the state of Kansas.
This took place at the Kansas State Capitol on Monday morning. Governor Laura Kelly signed the memorandum, which establishes South Korean drivers licenses as valid in the state of Kansas.
This allows Korean nationals who live in Kansas to easily exchange their Korean license with a Kansas one, significantly reducing many administrative barriers that complicate this process. Additionally, the memorandum will apply to Kansans visiting South Korea as well.
Korean Consulate General Junghan Kim was present at today's signing. he says this is agreement is evidence of a growing partnership.
"During the tenure of Governor Laura Kelly, I think the partnership between Korea and the United States and Kansas has been steadily expanding," said Kim.
Additionally, Secretary for the Kansas Department of Revenue Mark Burghart says, he's in full support of the memorandum.
"Driver's license reciprocity is a practical step that will make it easier for residents of Kansas and South Korea to transition between our jurisdictions with fewer administrative hurtles," said Burghart
Currently under Kansas law, Korean citizens are allowed to drive with a valid Korean license for only a limited time, and this memorandum aims to make the credential exchange process easier.
