TOPEKA, (KSNT) - Fire officials are investigating what caused a deadly house fire in central Topeka. A witness said people nearby heard the sound of a "boom," as the fire broke out.
Savannah Barnes spoke with 27 News in an exclusive interview Sunday night. Barnes said she heard sirens, and rushed out of her house.
" Some college kids told me they heard booms," Barnes said. "They said it sounded like a gun, and then later on, another person told me that it's a known drug house."
Several fire trucks and police officers were on the scene for hours. The fire started just before 6p.m. Sunday on SW Buchanan street.
Crews arrived to find heavy spoke and flames. One person, who was found on the second floor of the home, was later pronounced dead.
The incident is currently under investigation.
