JEFFERSON COUNTY, KS (KSNT) - To celebrate their sailing season, the Perry Yacht Club hosted their annual Commodore Cup.
The Commodore Cup is a sailing race hosted during a long weekend to honor their sailing club's long season of sailing that begins in late April and goes through until Thanksgiving.
The chair for this year's cup, Steven Murphy, spoke on what he enjoys about the annual race.
"This has been a great competition for the club," Murphy said. "We are a little over fifty years. Haven't had one every year, but most years. Probably the best thing is the sailing community comes together for a long weekend. People ask about sailboat racing a lot and go how do you know if there is a sailboat race? If there are two boats on the water, it's probably a race."
The race also serves a fundraiser for sailing education at the club.
