LAWRENCE, Kan. — Three people died Friday night in a crash south of Lawrence.
The Kansas Department of Transportation said the crash happened around 6 p.m. on northbound U.S. Highway 59, and involved two cars.
One car with three passengers was headed southbound when it lost control. The reason is unknown. That caused the car to cross over the grass median and enter into the northbound lanes.
All three passengers of that car were pronounced dead at the scene. They are being identified as 20-year-old Tiffany Cox, 19-year-old Kiffany Mietchen and eight-month-old Azreal Ubelaker.
The driver of the other vehicle is expected to be okay. There were no other passengers in that car.
The highway was closed from 650 Road to 1000 Road for several hours and traffic was rerouted onto Old U.S. 59.
