LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- The McNeese Rodeo team will host the McNeese Cowboy Classic and annual rodeo in the Burton Coliseum later this month.
Karli, Kyle, and Drew Bordelon compete for the McNeese Rodeo team and will be showcasing their talents at the NIRA Southern Region Circuit Event.
Karli is a third-generation cowgirl who competes in barrel racing.
"My Dad's father rodeoed and my mother and father both rodeoed. So, I really had no choice. But, I love it I really do," Karli said.
Meanwhile, Drew rides bucking broncs. He picked up the sport of rodeo late in his life, although he has always been an athlete.
"I just I've been gifted, like, with athletic ability, you know? So I had other stuff came easier. And this is something you have to do with your head. It's a lot harder," Drew said.
McNeese Rodeo Coach Justin Browning hopes that moving the event to the Burton Coliseum will generate more revenue with its 6,000-seat capacity. That could mean up to $500,000 raised.
Proceeds of the event go toward scholarships, travel, and supplies for rodeo student-athletes.
