OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - EMSA's medical heat alert has been allowed to expired as the weather begins to cool down.
According to EMSA, since the alert was issued on August 17, medics have responded to 44 heat-related illness calls and taken 23 patients to local hospitals.
For the entire month of August, officials say medics in the Oklahoma City area responded to 89 heat-related illness calls and taken 53 patients to local hospitals.
EMSA issues a heat alert when paramedics respond to five or more heat-related illness calls in a 24-hour period.
