What Catherine O'Hara Recently Said About Her Rare Heart Condition, Cardiac Inversus
Catherine O’Hara has passed away at the age of 71 after a “brief illness” and while her cause of death hasn’t been confirmed as of this time, the actress’ recent comments about her health are resurfacing.
The Emmy-winning actress opened up in 2021 about being diagnosed with a condition called cardiac inversus, which is a rare heart condition.

The Cleveland Clinic notes that “situs inversus is a rare genetic condition in which the organs in your chest and abdomen are positioned in a mirror image of normal human anatomy.”
Dextrocardia with situs inversus, which is what Catherine had, is “when the tip (apex) of your heart points toward the right side of your chest.” 1 in every 10,000 people suffer from the condition.
Most people with the condition will live normal lives and not be affected by it.
“I’m a freak, yeah!” Catherine joked in an interview. “I love Western medicine, I just don’t want to be a part of it.”
Catherine said that after going through some tests, a doctor wanted to do another X-ray.
“He calls us into his office and says, ‘You’re the first one I’ve met!’ And it’s, ‘OK, I don’t even know the name, ’cause I don’t want to know the name.’ Something cardi-inversa. And then dexter-cardia-and-something-inversa,” she said (via E! News). “People are going to think I’m so ignorant not to know this, but I kind of don’t want to know. ‘Cause I didn’t know before that.”
