Man Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Free Luigi Mangione From Prison
A man allegedly just tried to free Luigi Mangione.
Mark Anderson, a 35-year-old man from Minnesota, was arrested and charged Thursday (January 29) for impersonating an FBI agent and showing up at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York City.
The man reportedly claimed to have a court order to release an inmate, identified as Luigi Mangione, per a law enforcement source to NBC News.
Prison officials allegedly asked to see his credentials, and he handed them a Minnesota driver’s license and “claimed to be in possession of weapons,” per the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
He also said he had paperwork “signed by a judge’ to release “a specific inmate.”
“Anderson also displayed and threw at [Bureau of Prisons] officers numerous documents. They appear to be related to filing claims against the United States Department of Justice,” the complaint adds.
His backpack contained a barbecue fork and a “round steel blade,” resembling a pizza cutter. He was working at pizzeria after coming to New York from Minnesota after a job opportunity didn’t work out, law enforcement said in the complaint. (See the image at CNN.)
Luigi has been in the federal prison since December of 2024, following his alleged involvement in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
