Wife Learns Important Marrriage Lesson After Husband 'Locked Himself in His Room' Over Her Tattoo Appointment
A woman was reminded of a valuable lesson about marriage after her husband was upset by her idea to get a meaningful tattoo.
Taking to Reddit‘s popular “Am I the A—–” forum, the 33-year-old wife explained that her husband, 35, “isn’t into tattoos.” However, she wrote that she had an idea to get one of something that they both “love.”
When she proposed the idea to her man, she said that he got upset and “locked himself in his room.” However, working through the situation helped her come to a realization.

In her post, the Redditor explained that after “years,” she decided that she wanted to get a tattoo of “an isopod crawling on [her] wrist.”
She explained that it was partly in tribute to her husband, who “has a bug hobby,” she wrote, “specifically isopods and millipedes.”
Continuing, the woman said that her husband was currently raising several species of isopods, including the one that she wanted to get tattooed on her body.
While the idea seemed sweet, her husband worried that if she got tattooed, it would “remind him of his failures” if the species died under his care.
The woman said that she was “dejected” after her husband “shot [her] down so fast,” adding that he “locked himself in his room.”
“Part of me wants to argue with him and consider getting the tattoo anyway. But I’m not sure if this makes me an a——,” she admitted. “I know how crushed [he's] been with his other bugs dying and I do want to be sensitive about his feelings, but the species I was going to get is currently doing really well and showing no signs of failing.”
Asking if she’d be in the wrong to proceed, fellow Redditors warned that she risked upsetting her husband if she didn’t respect his wishes.
“He has given you a pretty decent reason why he doesn’t want you to get that particular tattoo,” someone argued, adding, “You could hold off for a while to see how things go.”
Others agreed, prompting the woman to provide more insight about her situation and to say that she was going to “approach this more pragmatically to prevent it causing further tension.”
She returned to let people know that after having a conversation with her husband, he decided the idea actually “was cute” and told her that she could move forward with it.
In fact, “He even said if he had any interest in ever getting a tattoo himself, he’d be inclined to get the same.”
His about-face left her “feeling a bit of whiplash.” However, the woman added that she felt the tattoo was “more supportive” and a sign that she had faith in him taking care of the isopods he was raising.
In one final update on her post, the woman reminded other users of the lesson that she realized herself while going through this process: “To all of you who thought I was being a horrible wife- please remember that happy couples work out their issues with love and compassion for each other. We both had our reactions and that’s just part of being in a relationship sometimes. You can’t always agree on stuff right away when emotions are a factor. I’m glad that I was able reflect and take his concerns into consideration with this post.”
