First responders reportedly arrived at a home in Gaston County, North Carolina, after a reported fire at 6:19pm ET. Authorities noted two persons were found outside the home when emergency services arrived, and they were both taken to a nearby hospital.
Sadly, Dennis died from his injuries at the hospital, and Mary Lou was transferred to another hospital.
According to The Athletic, 10-15 fire departments responded to the home due to it’s size, and it’s location in a remote wooded area. It took more than two hours for the fire to be extinguished.
While the house has been deemed a total loss, there were reportedly “some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia” that were able to be saved and undamaged.
Our thoughts go out to Denny Hamlin and his loved ones during this difficult time.
