Ever wonder how Shaboozey came up with his stage name? Well he’s telling the story!
The “A Bar Song” singer is opening up about the origins of his stage name, which actually was a nickname for him growing up.

Shaboozey‘s real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze and his stage name was developed during his high school years in Virginia when his football coach mispronounced his last name.
Chibueze became Shaboozey.
“It could be a little confusing at times,” he told Billboard. “Hearing your name [mispronounced] during attendance was always a thing; you felt like you had to make it easier for everyone else to understand.”
Shaboozey also opened up about his decision to become a country artist instead of going into hip-hop.
“The rap we looked at on TV was always glamorized. That wasn’t the reality for everybody,” he said. “No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t write music in that world. I found country music could teach people that the little things in life are where the value is. Just having a working truck that you can take your girl in to ride to a cliff and watch the sunset is enough.”
Shaboozey sparked dating rumors with a famous model this summer.
