Musical theatre fans in Los Angeles were treated to an incredible sneak peek of the upcoming Off-Broadway show Mama I’m a Big Girl Now!
The three female leads of Broadway’s original Hairspray cast – Marissa Jaret Winokur, Kerry Butler, and Laura Bell Bundy – performed their new show for one night only at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday (September 26) in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The actresses originated the roles of Tracy, Penny, and Amber in the Tony-winning musical and now they’re ready to tell fans all the stories about what happened behind-the-scenes on Broadway.
In the 90-minute concert, Marissa, Kerry, and Laura take fans on a musical journey through their careers. You can expect all of your favorite Hairspray songs, Laura‘s Legally Blonde and Wicked hits, and Kerry‘s Little Shop of Horrors and Beetlejuice tunes.
You’ll hear about Marissa‘s stints on reality shows like Dancing With the Stars and Celebrity Big Brother, how Britney Spears was Laura‘s understudy in a musical when they were kids, and what it was like for Kerry to record the demos for The Little Mermaid on Broadway. You also learn the stories of their love and heartbreak, plus how each of them became mothers.
The show is a must-see for musical theatre fans! New York City audiences will have plenty of chances to catch the show as they’ll be performing it for a full month at the Off-Broadway venue New World Stages. Performances begin on November 2 and run through December 8. Get your tickets now!
