Alex shared the news with her fans on social media.
“I have so much clarity about this decision, and I am so happy to be able to finally tell you,” she said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter). “It has been a long time coming, and this decision wasn’t easy, but at the beginning of 2024 I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer.”
Alex continued, saying, “Soccer’s been a part of me for 30 years, and it was one of the first things that I ever loved. And I gave everything to this sport, and what I got in return was more than I could have ever dreamed of.”
She added that her daughter Charlie recently expressed interest in playing soccer professionally and said that she was moved by the revelation.
“It just made me immensely proud, not because I wish for her to become a soccer player when she grows up. But because a pathway exists that even a four-year-old can see now,” she said.
On the topic of her pregnancy, Alex said that it was “unexpected.” Regardless, she said that she and her husband Servando Carrasco were “overjoyed.”
“To me family means everything,” she gushed.
Alex will play in one more game on September 8.
We wish her well and are sending congratulations at this very exciting time!
Earlier this year, Alex reacted to not making the women’s team for the Paris Olympics.
