According to multiple reports, Joaquin Phoenix has dropped out of his next big project, a gay love story that was about to enter production.
The 49-year-old Joker actor was set to share the screen with Danny Ramirez in the untitled movie from Todd Haynes. He joined the project, which was rumored to have an NC-17 rating, in early 2023.
Now, the fate of the film hangs is unclear.

Indie Wire was the first outlet to report that Joaquin was no longer involved in the movie. The outlet reported that the actor was supposed to begin filming in Mexico in the next week.
The outlet noted that “financing hinged on Phoenix‘s casting” in the movie.
There are not yet talks to replace him in the movie. Instead, the focus is on paying the crew members who have been working to get ready for production.
Deadline reported that Joaquin‘s departure happened two weeks ago.
The actor has not issued a statement on the decision. We’ll update you if we learn more.
