Simone Biles is noticeably missing from the 2024 Paris Olympics‘ Opening Ceremony.
On Friday (July 26), the thousands of athletes competing in the games traveled down the iconic Seine River during the opening ceremony.
Missing out on the event was Simone, 27, who is expected to compete in the gymnastic competitions.
In an interview from the event, Simone‘s mom Nellie Biles explained to NBC’s Hoda Kotb why the gymnast isn’t at the ceremony.
Keep reading to find out more…“The first [gymnastics] competition is Sunday, which is women’s qualifier and of course she needs to rest up before that competition,” Nellie shared. “She is feeling really good. I spoke to her this morning and she’s doing great.”
Nellie went on to say that Simone is “a really good space” and is grateful to have her family’s support at the games for the next two weeks.
“She is happy that we are here,” Nellie added. “Seventeen of us are here to cheer her on.”
