Matthew Macfadyen is looking back at one of his biggest roles.
If you forgot, the 49-year-old Emmy-winning actor played Mr. Darcy in Joe Wright‘s adaption of the Jane Austen novel Pride & Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet in 2005.
In a new interview with CBS Mornings, Matthew shared why he felt like he was miscast in the role.

“I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough,’” Matthew added. “But it worked out.”
Despite his feelings, Matthew said he still gets excited when he’s recognized as Mr. Darcy by fans.
“The most flattering thing that happens to me now is people say, ‘Were you Mr. Darcy?’” Matthew shared. “It’s a good 20 years later. So I think, ‘I can’t be aging that badly.’”
Matthew will next be appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine, which hits theaters on Friday, July 26 – watch the latest trailer here!
