July 29 – FIFA has rejected Argentina’s complaints over a controversial last-minute equaliser being ruled out at the opening match of the Olympic football tournament against Morocco.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee rejected the protest filed regarding the events that occurred in the match against Morocco,” Argentine FA President Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia said on X, adding he is seeking explanations for the ruling.
Argentina lost the game 2-1 courtesy of a VAR ruling that came after a two-hour suspension caused by Morocco fans invading the pitch and throwing bottles from the stands to protest what they thought was a late equalising goal by Argentina in the 16th minute of added time.
