Fleetwood Town manager Charlie Adam has hailed an Aston Villa star as ‘world class’ and ‘unbelievable’ after he scored against the Cod Army in the EFL Trophy.
Adam prepared his Fleetwood side for an encounter with Aston Villa’s Under-21s, which ended in a 3-2 loss and had Cod Army goals from Ronan Coughlan and Mipo Odubeko.
Aston Villa involved a number of senior players in the game against Fleetwood.
Amongst them was Emi Buendia, who has been recovering from injury and put in an impressive performance against the League Two side, while his first goal of the game from Ross Barkley’s corner turned some heads.
Adam hailed the opener Buendia scored from a volley in the 28th minute of the game as ‘world class’ and ‘unbelievable’, while he pointed out that the goal highlights what a top team Aston Villa are.
The Fleetwood boss admitted that facing a top-quality team like Villa in the EFL League Trophy will be a great experience for his boys.
“It is brilliant for our players to come up against that top, top level that they are at and you have seen that with the goals they scored”, Adam told Fleetwood Town’s in-house media.
“The first one is world-class by far.
“And it is an unbelievable finish.”
Buendia has yet to feature in a senior game so far this season and he will be hoping that his performance on Tuesday will force Aston Villa boss Unai Emery to consider him for the starting line-up in the upcoming game against Everton.
