Turfgrass USA, a golf course consultancy, recently added Brad Owen to its team of experts upon his retirement as senior director of agronomy at Augusta (Ga.) National Golf Club.
In his new role, Owen will assist Turfgrass USA as it embarks on establishing its presence in North and Central America. Turfgrass has completed over 260 global projects spanning 53 countries.
Owen has over 38 years of experience in the industry, including a tenure at Augusta National as superintendent and then his most recent role as senior director of agronomy. His career began with a degree from Appalachian State University, followed by a strong foundation in turfgrass management from Pennsylvania State University.
His journey into the golf course industry commenced at Elk River Club in Banner Elk, N.C., before his internship at Augusta National in 1986, marking the start of a lifelong affiliation with the course. He then became a full-time employee at Augusta National in 1987 before becoming superintendent in 1997.
Owen’s contributions extended beyond Augusta National, as he served as an agronomics advisor for international golf events, including the 2016 Asia-Pacific Amateur in Incheon, South Korea.
Now, Owen joins forces with industry veterans Adam Moeller and John Lawrence to form Turfgrass USA, a team dedicated to advancing the future of golf course development, agronomy maintenance and sustainability in America. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience poised to address the evolving needs of golf courses across the North and South continents.
