The Golden State Warriors tip-off their preseason opener with tonight’s matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers. The game is scheduled for 4:00 PM PT in Honolulu and can be watched on NBC Sports Bay Area and NBA TV.
The last game the Warriors played was during the Western Conference Play-In Tournament where they suffered a tough first-round exit against the Sacramento Kings, 118-94. The early playoff departure stung across the board, but what made it even harder for everyone involved was that it marked Klay Thompson’s final game wearing the blue and gold. While he’ll always be remembered as a franchise legend, Thompson’s last performance — zero points on 0-for-10 shooting from the field — was one of the final signals that his run with the team he spent the first 13 years of his career with was coming to an end as both sides needed a fresh start.

With Klay Thompson now playing for the Dallas Mavericks and veteran point guard Chris Paul signing with the San Antonio Spurs in free agency, the Warriors had to retool their roster. They added seasoned players like Kyle Anderson, Buddy Hield, and De’Anthony Melton, each bringing crucial skill sets to help fill the gaps.
However, as was the case last season, the Warriors’ wealth of versatile depth presents a challenge for head coach Steve Kerr: finding the right player combination for the starting lineup. While Steph Curry and Draymond Green are locked in as starters, Kerr has openly stated the other three spots are still undecided. He’ll be shuffling players throughout tonight’s game – not including Andrew Wiggins who will miss Saturday’s game due to illness — hoping that the offseason improvements mentioned by several of the returning players translate into success on the court and make his lineup decisions a lot clearer.
Is it safe to assume this will be the starting unit in the preseason opener tomorrow?
