Rounding up all Warriors and NBA related news for Wednesday, August 28th.
NBA 2K25 officially unveiled their player ratings this week. For Golden State Warriors fans, the spotlight was once again on point guard Stephen Curry who earned a 95 overall rating, seventh-highest among the league’s top players.

While this marks a slight downgrade from the 96 rating he held for the past three years, it hardly reflects a decline in Curry’s game. At 36 years old and entering his 16th NBA season, Curry continues to perform at an elite level, and shows little reason to believe that he is slowing down. His impact on the court remains as profound as ever, and he’s poised to continue leading a retooled Warriors’ roster with the same level of excellence this upcoming season.

As draft night neared, Brandin Podziemski was finishing up a workout at the Golden State Warriors’ practice facility. The front office inhabits the second floor above the court. Between personnel meetings, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. descended for a break and spotted Podziemski. He delivered a revelation in their quick chat.
“A lot of these other teams are calling about you,” Podziemski said Dunleavy told him. “They want you, but you’re not going anywhere. You’re ours.”
An eventful offseason left the Warriors outside the second apron for the first time in a while, and that will continue through the 2025-26 campaign as well. They are roughly $49 million below the projected tax without anything for pending restricted free agents Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody. Is that enough to retain both and use the $14.1 million nontaxpayer MLE or retain 2024 signing De’Anthony Melton? Probably not.
Long established as the most proficient deep shooter in league history, his scoring package also includes bits of magic from midrange and in the paint – everything but the dunk. His floor game finesses. His ball-handling bamboozles. The NBA’s only unanimous MVP is No. 1 in career free-throw percentage, No. 1 in career 3-pointers is and more productively efficient than anyone 6-foot-3 or under.
Besides considering an offer from Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv, Bruno Caboclo is currently practicing with the Golden State Warriors, hoping to sign a contract and return to the NBA.
His agent Daniel Hazan expanded on current options for the Brazilian big.
“He is training with Golden State until Thursday intending to get a contract. And he believes he will succeed,” Hazan told Israeli outlet Sports Channel.
While the Spurs are taking a patient approach as they work to return to the playoffs, San Antonio made a point of stabilizing its roster with veterans, cheaply adding Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. It took a little while for the young Spurs to build chemistry last season, and inserting experience into the rotation should make life easier for Wembanyama in particular. Playing with a future Hall of Fame point guard tends to help your chances of catching the ball where you want it.
Duke forward Cooper Flagg — the No. 1 prospect in ESPN’s 2025 NBA draft class — has signed a significant shoe endorsement deal with New Balance.
Flagg joins a New Balance brand tied closely to his home state, including a Skowhegan, Maine, manufacturing factory that is 25 miles from his childhood home in Newport.
“The connection with New Balance as a family company and a company with Maine roots means a lot to me,” Flagg told ESPN. “That makes this really different and special. My mom used to go to the tent sale for back-to-school shopping there when we were kids. That really aligns the brand with my roots. It’s a perfect fit.”

The most interesting at the moment, at least to me, is Kuminga. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Kuminga is slated to be a restricted free agent next offseason and is obviously hoping to secure a massive raise. However, to garner a max contract, he will likely need to take a significant step forward. But exactly how unprecedented of a leap does he need to make?
I decided to compare Kuminga’s third NBA season to the third year for some elite wings who seem to share some characteristics with the Warriors wing: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Jaylen Brown, Pascal Siakam, and George.
