The Rebels’ overall record this fall was 9-3, with all three losses coming in eight tries against fellow Southeastern Conference schools. Ole Miss spent the season among the nation’s top 25 teams, but a late-season defeat at the Florida Gators killed its College Football Playoff hopes.
The Blue Devils put up the exact same records as their bowl game opponent, except theirs was in Atlantic Coast Conference play as opposed to the brutal SEC schedule. As a result, they finished outside the US LBM Coaches Poll top 25 but still earned 40 votes for a de facto No. 27 ranking.
