New York Mets infielder José Iglesias was not able to catch a foul ball during a victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday night.
Iglesias, who played second and third base for the Mets in the contest, made an attempt to dive for a foul that was heading toward the crowd. He was not able to make the play and the ball then ricocheted off of the railing near the protective netting and into the air.
It remained airborne for longer than expected and Iglesias lost track of it after the failed out. But the parabola of the ball somehow ended up exactly in the most inconvenient place imaginable, quite literally bonking him on the head.
He was not injured by the play, so if you find yourself giggling a bit at this blooper, don’t feel too guilty:
