The Utah Utes kick off their 2024 schedule early on during Week 1 with a home game against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Thursday.
The Utes finished at 8-5 overall but went 5-4 in the erstwhile Pac-12 competition last year. Utah will get an easier opponent to start things off this fall, having faced the Florida Gators for a home-and-home to open the last two seasons.
The Thunderbirds put up a mediocre 6-5 mark in 2023 but managed to go 4-2 against fellow Big Sky Conference schools. The FCS program has lost both previous matchups with the home team, most recently in blowout fashion back in 2022.

These two schools have met on the collegiate gridiron twice before with a combined score of 97-7 in favor of the Utes. However, a new season brings new hopes and the Thunderbirds will be in SLC looking for an upset, so there is always a chance for an exciting result.
