Israel's Yemen strike will embolden Huthis: analysts

Saturday's strike on the port city of Hodeida, which the rebels say killed six people and triggered a massive fire, will provide the Huthis with "political capital", said Maged Al-Madhaji, co-founder of the Sanaa Centre for Strategic Studies think tank. China and Philippines reach deal to avoid clashes at disputed reef

China and the Philippines have struck a deal aimed at stopping the two countries from clashing over the fiercely disputed Second Thomas Shoal in the South China Sea, the Philippine government said Sunday. In the past year, the territorial standoff at the reef has flared and came to a head in mid-June when Chinese forces seized and damaged two Philippine navy boats with machetes and improvised spears. Several Filipino navy personnel were injured in the incident.

Saturday's strike on the vital port, a key entry point for fuel and humanitarian aid, is the first claimed by Israel in the Arabian peninsula's poorest country, about 2,000 kilometres (1,300 miles) away. Bangladesh’s top court scales back ‘discriminatory’ job quota system after deadly protests

The Supreme Court in Bangladesh on Sunday ruled that only a small share of government jobs can be allocated to relatives of veterans who fought in the country’s war of independence. The rest must be allocated upon merit. The controversial quota system, which previously reserved 30 percent of those jobs to people related to war veterans, has in the past few weeks led to mass protests and more than a hundred deaths, according to local media.
