In Dagestan, the today's operations carried out by
law enforcers on the territories of the Suleiman-Stalsky, Derbent, and
Tabasaran District have become the first operations in June. Since the
beginning of the year, the total number of special operations and
shootouts reaches at least 29. Of them, 14 special operations were
carried out in areas of Southern Dagestan.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the death toll includes seven suspected militants and
four law enforcers. At least seven law enforcers were wounded.
Meanwhile, during the past five months, in Dagestan,
law enforcers carried out at least 26 special operations and shootouts,
of which 11 took place in Southern Dagestan. In the course of all those
incidents, 24 suspected militants were killed and another was wounded.
One law enforcer was killed, and 21 others were wounded. Besides, one
civilian was wounded. Thus, in total, since the beginning of the year,
in Dagestan, in the course of shootouts and special operations, 31
suspected militants were killed and another was wounded. Five law
enforcers were killed, and other 28 were wounded.
Experts in the Caucasus interviewed by the "Caucasian
Knot" associated the worsening of the conflict in Southern Dagestan
with active actions of the authorities to suppress the Salafi community.
In 2015, in Dagestan, 57 armed incidents were
registered which affected 150 people. Of them, 123 people were killed
and 27 others were wounded. The death toll includes 94 suspected members
of illegal armed formations (IAFs), 13 law enforcers, and 16 civilians.
