City cruised to a 2-0 win against a physical Stevenage side on Saturday, and attention turns to a competition that, unlike in the last couple of seasons, Gary Caldwell has said he is treating seriously. To that end, although there will be a mix of fringe and youth players, expect City to once again name a strong side as in the 2-1 win over Swindon in the first group match. The likes of Shaun MacDonald, Jack Fitzwater, Caleb Watts and Sonny Cox are likely to get starts on Tuesday night, but that Swindon match also saw players such as Pierce Sweeney and Jack Aitchison featuring.
Tottenham’s first foray into this year’s competition saw Wayne Burnett’s side earn a “winning draw” at Bristol Rovers after a 3-3 draw, winning 6-5 on penalties. The player to watch is probably Will Lankshear, who netted in that match and is considered to be a threat in front of goal.
Tuesday night marks the first encounter between the sides – City memorably played the senior side in the 1981 FA Cup Quarter Final, going down 2-0 at White Hart Lane.
The match officials for this game will be:-
Referee: Craig Hicks
Assistant Referees: Jack Clench and Carl Peters
Fourth Official : Ravel Cheosiaua
Craig Hicks has been a regular official at St James Park, either as a referee or as the fourth official. His last game in charge of Exeter was the FA Cup first round game at home to Wigan, which City lost 2-0.
