Telangana began its caste census. This was an election promise by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The survey aims to understand the socio-economic status of various sections of society. Gandhi advocated for a caste census across India. He believes it will reveal the injustice faced by Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis. Gandhi also stated that his party would work towards breaking the 50% reservation limit.
