It is after a long time that we are seeing corrections in absolute terms. Also, it is rare for the Indian markets not to be in step as global markets rise. On Monday, and also on last Friday, there were minor intra-day upmoves by the Nifty. But these were followed by sudden, sharp selling pressure which saw the whole market collapse. In such times, there is no foolproof way to avoid a cut in the value of your portfolio. However, if you are investing fresh money, a filter of sorts would help. So, stay with large-caps – especially those in sectors with the tailwind of a policy push, or any other such positive.
