India is strengthening its naval defenses with the acquisition of 500 advanced sonobuoys from the United States for $52.8 million, intended to counter rising submarine threats in the Indian Ocean. The sonobuoys, compatible with India’s Sikorsky MH-60R helicopters, will significantly enhance anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities. Approved during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Washington DC, this move comes as India responds to growing Chinese naval presence in the region.
