Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed in the Rajya Sabha that India's aviation industry aims to use 20 per cent bio-aviation fuel within five years, sourced from agricultural stubble. This move will benefit farmers financially. Gadkari also highlighted the highway ministry's use of bio-bitumen to reduce bitumen imports. The Central Road Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Petroleum collaborated to create bio-bitumen, which could result in reduced greenhouse gas emissions and provide revenue and employment for farmers and MSMEs.
