The India Meteorological Department improved its heavy rainfall predictions by 30 to 40 per cent in the past five years, said IMD chief Mohapatra. Nonetheless, Kerala blamed the IMD for insufficient warnings before fatal landslides in Wayanad. Improvements in early warning systems have aided disaster management, and further advancements are expected in the coming years.
